Our Next Book Club Meeting: December 2014 The Book: The Paying Guests Author: Sarah Waters |
After a couple of books that the book club just haven't enjoyed (I've not included them on the site) I am hopeful that this book will be a chance to read another page turner.
At over 500 pages, it better be worth it. To be honest, we normally only allow books that are 400 pages are less as we all have way too busy lives to commit to a massive read.
So far the book seems to have an interesting plot. It is set in the 1920's and a well to do family have to accept paying lodgers into their house for financial reasons.
The class system is very much highlighted here which I think will provoke some interesting discussion.
There are also some feminist characters in the novel that are very much part of the story. I am intrigued as to where this story line will go and what discussion it will provoke in the group
There are also tensions between some of the characters which seem to be developing and keeping me turning those pages.
Have you read this book? What did you think of it? Do you think our book club will enjoy it? Is there enough to discuss to make a lively meeting?
This is your chance to join in our discussion, you can write a review of the book, add some questions that you think would make our meeting interesting.
